Roman legionary centurion vine staff vinewood rod switch tool of rank discipline

Description

For sale here is my Roman legionary centurion vine staff or vinewood rod and switch tool that was seen not only as a sign of rank for the centurion but was mainly used to administer discipline to smart mouth legionary with a hard hit to the individual soldier causing the centurion grief.  Legionary soldiers were said to have feared their own centurions more then their enemies on the field of battle.  Thus you were compelled not to give ground or retreat in battle for fear of the repercussions your centurion would have in store for you if you did.  This vine staff is approximately 46 inches long.
The piece has four groves and was cleaned and peeled.  It was then sanded for a smooth touch.  It has been given three Minwax clear gloss finishes to make it weather resistant and durable and keep it protected from insects & fungus.  The pecan finish gives it a rich glow and highlights the darker areas of the grooves..
